fully furnished doorset

Fully Furnished Doorsets

When buying and installing a new door, you need to decide whether it’s worth paying that little bit more for a factory-finished doorset, or taking the upfront cost saving by choosing a door that needs to be fitted and finished on site. There are a number of differences between the two options besides just price.

The benefits of a fully furnished doorset

Quicker installation

A fully furnished, pre-hung door is considerably quicker to install than one that needs to be cut, assembled and finished on site. Typical installation time for a doorset is around an hour compared to up to five hours for a door that needs hanging and painting on site.

Lower labour costs

Though the fully furnished doorset will be more expensive to purchase, the significantly reduced installation time means cheaper labour costs which will quite often outweigh the initial additional outlay of the doorset.

Lower margin for error

Produced under factory-controlled conditions, a doorset has a far lower risk of defects arising from its installation than a standard site-assembled door. With so many components and processes to consider it is easy to see why, the doorset will be fully assembled and fully furnished including pre fitted door furniture and security locks, it will be pre hung squarely in the frame with weather seals pre fitted and double glazed if required, the paint or stain finish will be factory applied under controlled conditions to give the best finish and extended guarantee.

What to think about when choosing a doorset

Functional requirements

Your first consideration must be ensuring that your doorset meets key functional requirements, such as fire protection, security, weather tightness and sound insulation. There are doorsets available that meet and all of these functions, just make sure you choose the right one for your purpose.

The material

Just like other standard no assembled doors, doorsets come in all different materials.

Timber looks impressive, and technology has increased its durability, but be aware that a timber doorset may still warp, shrink or expand, and therefore it will need regular maintenance.

Plastics aren’t always as attractive as their timber equivalents, but there are less susceptible to the conditions that cause timber to warp, maintaining their original shape whatever the weather. They require very little maintenance.

Steel-based doorsets are strong, but indents can’t be easily repaired, and they require regular maintenance to prevent corrosion.
