Comment from Neil Fuller

With high timber prices the talk of the industry, Alsford Managing Director, Neil Fuller, recently updated our branches about our strong stock position and reliable supply chain, in the lead up to peak summer season.

More than ever, our industry is living the reality that timber is a truly global commodity. Trees cut and processed in Europe are being shipped in huge quantities all over the world. The US and China are the biggest markets, and huge build programmes and political wrangling has driven huge increases in demand for timber. They are absorbing as much as they can get, and paying whatever it takes to get it there. In the UK, we are seeing that impact – with less stock at each level of the supply chain from the sawmills in Europe, through to end-user availability. The reality for merchants is that prices have reached an all-time high and are still rising, but this will never get in the way of supporting our customers.

We continue to have strong supplier relationships, many of which we have had for decades and we are working closely with them to guarantee the quality of our products, and continue the fulfilment of timber as we come into the peak summer season.

For our customers, we have always provided a place of assurance and reliability, and this is unchanged. We have strong stocks of timber across Alsford, with common structural softwood and prepared timber in Whitewood & Redwood, American White Oak and Meranti, all available at our branches. Careful allocations have held us in good stead, and we look forward to continuing to offer good stocks of timber to all of our customers, in what we anticipate to be a very busy upcoming season.”
