Contemporary Slatted Panels

Creating something different for your garden this summer? Contemporary Slatted Panels are an easy to complete alternative to traditional garden fencing, trellis or panelling.

You can use slatted panels to add interest in front of existing garden borders such as by attaching to walls, or as a unique garden feature on their own such as creating the garden seating area pictured as an alternative to a Pergola.

Slatted Panel Fencing

Whilst many homeowners use traditional featheredge or panel fencing, contemporary slatted fencing made from cedar or softwood has grown in popularity with garden designers and homeowners alike.

When creating slatted fencing, don’t forget to use UC4 Fence Posts for ground contact work, and to apply an appropriate stain or treatment to your fence. The size of timber used for slats can vary, but 25mm x 50mm timber is a common choice.

Whilst your initial focus for creation is the interior facing fence, you may wish to create a double-sided slatted fence, alternating the gaps with the interior facing slats to secure your privacy.

Slatted Panels as a Garden Feature

As a garden feature, slatted panels create stunning alternatives to traditional Pergola structures, and can be attached to brick work as an alternative to trellis.

For slatted panels attached to garden walls, you can use a horizontal or vertical direction for your timber to create a unique feature for your garden. Ensure your slats are consistently cut to size before placement, and that your timber uprights are secured to the wall using Masonry Screws, prior to securing your slats to them.

As with slatted fencing, a 25mm x 50mm timber is a common size for the slats, with a 25mm x 50mm sawn treated softwoodsuitable for the uprights.

As with all garden timber usage, wood will need to be treated either prior to or after fitting.
