Alsford's Timber Production Mill
Throughout our 130-year history, we’ve worked hard to live up to our reputation for supplying top quality timber. Not a firm to rest on our laurels, we’re constantly looking for new ways to achieve excellence which is why in 2014 we invested £1,000,000 to build a new production mill on our site in Erith, South East London.
The new mill enabled us to bring production of our Premier, Standard and Contract Grade timber back in house, giving us greater control over the quality and range of our projects.
So what’s it like inside our new production mill? Let’s take a look…
Alsford Timber Mill 1
There are two production facilities on site. Alsford's Timber Mill 1 houses our new state-of-the-art Weinig Powermat Moulder that we use to give our Premier products – skirting, architraves, small section moulding and PAR sections – the superb finish that our customers demand. We also use the new moulder to plane and split other types of timber.
Because quality is our utmost concern, we chose a manual feed moulder to give us the ability to reject any substandard material before planing.
The new moulder, working alongside our original machine, has increased our in-house production capacity significantly.
Alsford Timber Mill 2
Alsford's Timber Mill 2 hosts a broad range of machines, including a band saw, beam saw, planer, thicknesser, straight line edger, small moulder, spindle moulder and crosscut. It’s here that we produce most of our oak and meranti hardwood sections and mouldings, as well as crafting any unusual sizes or shapes of timber that a customer requires – if you can draw it, we can make it!
The Alsford Tool Room
The best timber requires the best tools, which is why we’ve invested heavily in the latest in tool room technology. We use CAD drawing systems linked to a Weinig plastic template maker to produce cutters for all of our machines. The system ensures a fast and efficient service to all of our branches.
Quality has always been Alsford Timber’s top priority; with our new production mill, we’re able not only to continue to supply first-rate products, but also to produce more of them, serving more customers across the South East.
